Default The ultimate bee coin?

I was going to place a good bid on this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MEWA:IT

It's the first one I have seen on Ebay! I saw one for sale on an
ancient coin web site at $7000.00.

Great bee! I wonder why the seller took the listing down. Did you make
an off-eBay deal for it?

I saw that one a day or so ago, and immediately thought `a bee without
wings? How novel. Dating from 650BC too? That's really something ...and
in electrum?....'

Nah! No way to any of it.

Whatever it may be it certainly isn't electrum, it sure doesn't look
like any `Ephesos' bee i've seen but i'm still open open on that, and it
sure wasn't minted circa 650BC. I'd be looking for some serious
guarantees of authenticity /comparative references to known examples
before I would think of bidding on it. I don't think the seller has much
of a clue about it either, which isn't a good starting point.

Of course, I could be eating my hat before the evening is over. ;-)

Don't think so. The coin is a modern forgery, looking nothing like
authentic Ephesos electrum hektes. Among other thing, the bee on this
specimen has three eyes. This piece was discussed in various online
discussion groups, and the seller was informed it was a forgery.
