Has anyone actully seen a MS 65 Morgan in one of the Redfield/Continental
red packs? It looks to me they vary pretty wildly.

They were correctly graded according to the standards of the mid
1970s.

These would likely have graded MS63 in the late 1980s and perhaps MS64
today.

I thought grading standards become more lax over time, not the other way
around?

They have, that's why the coin only merited a 63 then, but merits a 64 now.
I use the word "merit" loosely.

I got confused by 65 being stated first. It reads like Frank is saying a
Morgan in the 70s would be MS65, then MS63 in the 80s and then MS64 today.

That is correct. Grading standards tightened in the early 1980s and
again in the late 1980s and became excessively strict. The grading
services rarely gave out any grades above MS65. They have relaxed a
point or so in the late 1990s.

BTW, I closed my speakeasy account about 4 years ago, but my personal
website is still there...

Okay, just to clarify , I was referring to the Redfield/Paramount or just
Paramount Morgans(alot of people confuse the two) in the red slabs that are
all marked Mint State 65. Most if not all of them I've seen don't look to be
that high.
I haven't seen many in the blue/black MS60 slabs or the Green MS 65 plus
holders so I can't say what I think of those.

Yup. Can't tell the grade from the pics though.

Of course you can. It say Mint State 65 right on the holder.
