Default ANA 2005 Convention Moves to San Francisco ...

Here's the official ANA Press Release re the relocation of
the 2005 summer convention, courtesy of Donn the PR Guy ...

Fast, efficient work by the American Numismatic Association after San Jose
forced a change in the game plan.....

ANA 2005 CONVENTION MOVES TO CITY ON THE BAY
(Colorado Springs, CO) * American Numismatic Association (ANA) executive
director, Chris Cipoletti today announced the organizationıs decision to
move the Summer 2005 Worldıs Fair of Money from San Jose to nearby San
Francisco. Convention dates will remain the same: July 27 * 31.

The decision was made as a result of the San Joseıs inability to give
the ANA the convention center space it needed.
Despite efforts over the last 18 months to work with the San Jose
Convention and Visitorıs Bureau to obtain space on the dates needed
by the ANA, San Jose could not confirm the space needed. This problem
was compounded by the City Councilıs December 7 vote to host a Grand
Prix auto-racing event during the same weekend. The road rally would
close the downtown corridor to traffic and fill area hotel rooms.
San Jose could not provide the ANA with any assurances that the race
would not interfere with the 2005 Worldıs Fair of Money.

³We hoped to find a way to work with the city of San Jose, but practical
issues forced us to look for a less complicated venue,² said Cipoletti.
Contract negotiations with the Moscone West Convention Center and nearby
hotels continue. The ANA anticipates being able to come to agreement on the
facility and hotel arrangements before the end of the year. Meanwhile ANA
officials are upbeat.
³Feedback from the Association so far has been very positive,² said
Cipoletti, who noted the last ANA Summer Show in San Francisco took place
in 1949.
³Our goal is to announce this location change as soon as possible to assist
those who are making early travel arrangements.²
Bishop also noted that it is still just a short drive into San Francisco
for those members who have purchased airline tickets to San Jose.

Lysa Lewin, national account executive with the San Francisco Convention
and Visitors Bureau is credited with finding the space and hotel rooms
to make the change work.
Her efforts will likely be rewarded. According to industry estimates, the
annual ANA convention attracts more than 15,000 visitors and generates
between $15 and $20 million for host cities.
Information and updates regarding the ANA summer convention will be
published in the February issue of Numismatist or may be obtained by
calling 719.482.9871.
