Default US Postal Team

I am sure many are aware of it bu for the rest the UsPostal Team, headed
by Lance Armstrong, has again won the "Tour de France". This is the
fifth straight win for Armstrong. Next year, health permitting, he will
try for a sixth victory.
.
The Postal System sponsors the race team in an effort to bring attention
to collecting US stamps throughout the world
.
This international cycling sport is not very popular in the US, when
compared to other nations, and other sports, and Armstrong has gotten
but a little publicity here in the US, however his win places him in a
category of truly great athletes.
.
I would not be surprised if the Postal Service issues a stamp honoring
the US Cycling team.

Apparently such an US stamp can be issued only after the death of Mr.
Armstrong. For this reason I prefer him alive, even if without a stamp :-)

BTW, the French PA has issued 20 "souvenirs Philatéliques" (and 2 "souvenirs
philateliques speciaux"), each cancelled at the city of the start and of the
finish, for each stage of the tour. An interesting idea, but a bit expensive
(40 Euro, but instead off 66 Euro, when bought each separately).

Baloney. It's so postal big shots can get a free trip to France and to
get the French to mail their letters in the nearest USPS mailbox. It
equals the silliness of the Postal Service spending millions it could
not afford to sponsor the Olympics, but Postal Officials got free tickets.

I don't think itr exist such a box in France now!! and nobody here
make relation between Tour de France , Amstrong and stamp collecting!!
I think USPS don't get much money (in Eurpean countries) from
sponsoring a team in Tour de France!

You are such a grump Stephan.
..
Anyone normal would be glad to see someone achieve something that most
people only dream of.
..
Overcoming a cancer that would have laid waste to most men and going on
to win five world class competitions in a row is a fantastic
achievement.
..
Philatelic sales generate a profit after expenses so assuming that some
postal officials do make some publicity trip to France, (Where I think
you once reported you were "persona non grata" at their shows, for some
reason ) those expenses comeout of the profits.

You are right about it being against the rules to issue a stamp honoring
Armstrong until long after his passing, Victor, however, they can issue
one honoring the race team or celebrting the race itself. That would be
similar to the "Landing on the Moon" stamp of 1969 which did not mention
either Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin or "Old What's His Name" ( Michael
Collins). Many other times we have honored an event and ( officially )
not the people to get around that prohibition.
