Default Is Dave Bowers back in the coin business?

I see an ad in Coins magazine for his latest book on Morgan dollars, looks to
be
a pocket size edition. Being sold by American Numismatic Galleries which
looks to be a part of American Numismatic Rarities, both have a Wolfeboro,
NH address. Is he now on the staff of American Numismatic Rarities or
is this just a freelance book project that ANR is selling?

FWIW, in my experience most Covenants Not To Compete last for a year
after termination of service. IIRC, Bowers and CU severed their
relationship in January 2003 ...

If Bowers decides to get back into the
business I wouldn't be surprised to see
him associate with American Numismatic
Rarities. Any of the big numismatic
companies would love to have in on their
staff of course and would trumpet that
fact so there could be a bidding war for
his services if he wants to get into that.

However, I don't see him as wanting to
leave New Hampshire since he loves the
state and has one or more numismatic research projects relating to
NH going at the present time.

Dave is spearheading the "red book" series project for Whitman. The Morgan
Dollar book is the first of the series. I'm working on the Flying Eagle and
Indian Cent book. ANR is a freindly company that will probably sell all of
Dave's next 100 book titles, regardless of his . As for his older titles, I
think CU has the rights to them, but I'm just guessing.

Tell us more about this "project." Are they doing a major revision, or is
this just the usual time-to-time editing.

It's a series of specialty books featuring a date by date analysis, grading
pricing and collecting tips.
It will be "The Official Red Book of..." series, not a revision of the red
book.

For instance, my books on Indian Cents are geared more to identifying
varieties. Casual collectors don't want or need that kind of detail. The
Indian Cent book will feature the basic information that will help colectors
make informed decisions when buying Indian Cents.

In other words: no prices for varieties?

Prices for the major varieties will be listed (for Flying Eagle and Indian
Cents), as well as the pricing for the 1870-1872 Shallow N and Bold N pieces
(which are becoming acceptable for inclusion in regular sets by mainstream
collectors).
