Good Samaritan robbed, killed in NC home

(AP) - 1 day ago

McLEANSVILLE, N.C. - Authorities say someone robbed
and killed a North Carolina coin collector who had
offered financial help to those struggling this
Christmas.

The News & Record of Greensboro reports Friday that
76-year-old Charles Herman Brown of McLeansville was
found dead by church members who were checking on
him.

They found his door kicked in and his body tied up
on the floor of his ransacked office. The door to
a safe where Brown kept a collection of rare coins
was hanging open. Friends say he frequently talked
about his coins.

The Rev. Dennis Tabor of Stevens Memorial Baptist
Church says Brown had earned some extra money and
recently asked if anyone in the church needed money
or help.

Authorities believe Brown had been dead for about
a day.

NEVER and I repeat NEVER keep rare coins at home. ALWAYS buy a safe
depsoit box for rare coins even if "safe deposit" is not totally
always safe. That said, my bank requires ID to enter their safe, even
if they know you (CYA I'm sure, but who cares?).

But my shotgun and handguns are always nice options at home just in
case someone thinks there is something here. Just sayin'....

Well those would certainly be a nice score for someone who broke into your
home while you were away.
