Default Sad letter

I received today a letter from a friend of a man I wrote to recently
who was in Lord of the Rings (he was a King Ring Bearer, seen in the
beginning of the first film holding one of the rings). Anyway, I got
a letter from his friend who told me he's dying and is not expected to
live more than a few months. He's got cancer. I don't think I gave
his address here and so I won't now.... but it's sad indeed. However,
I thought to share that the person said that he loved my letter and
saved it and was thrilled that someone wrote and cared.

Basically we collect autographs from these people without knowing them
or their lives and just want an autograph. But it's cool when our
words touch them and they respond in kind and make our day too. I am
happy to have made his day and am going to send him a card and tell
him thanks for making mine too. It's also these "lesser" celebs where
we get all this valuable information, insight into films and personal
connections and that's what I love more than to writing A list
celebs...

I feel in a small way this is a unique hobby in which we can utilize
it not only for selfish reasons, but to give to others at the same
time; enriching both sides. Sappy I know, but at receiving this sad
news and knowing a VERY small bit (and I mean very as I am alive and
well and fairly healthy) what he must be feeling... it's time like
this we can give back. I plan to write him this week; I just need to
come up with the right words.

When you do write him again, say "Hi" for me, and that I'm sorry to
hear his sad news.
