Default UK Wildings. question

While sorting through my piles of British Wilding I came across a 3d stamp
that stood out because the paper is very thick, so thick I thought it might be
two stamps stuck together at first. The paper of this stamp is so heavy it
just comes short of being cardstock. Any information on this stamp or any
other Wildings of such nature?
Amazing what you can find with sorting even common stamps as the QE2
Wildings. Found many inverted watermarks, with phospor bands and even a couple
graphite stamps.

That's the way to do it!

....But it takes so much time - I still have half a shoe-box full
of Definitives on paper that I just can't seem to get around to!

Douglas will probably have an answer for you, regarding the very
thick paper.

David.

This stamp is normal perforation and is the multiple crown watermark. I
have looked at several websites and there is no mention of a heavy/thick paper
variety.

I can't answer your question, but this book which I've just noticed on
eBay might be able to:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...category=70 1
8 (No, I'm not the seller, but I've had good dealings with him).

Mostly those come from booklets as the panes were printed tete-beche.
alternate panes for the booklets were thus 'inverted' and when stapled
(sewn) the watermark became 'inverted'.

I've got the inverteed and sideways watermarks down as I knew they were
from booklets. Still wondering what the deal is with my 3d QE2 Wilding with
multiple crown watermark and very thick paper. Could it be from a booklet too
though that doesn't seem likely.

Many thanks for the information. That fits this stamp's description. No
sideways T in the watermark, but this stamp is probably this "experimental
paper" variety. I will make a note of this. Mystery solved!

Dave

SG Spec. notes:

"In 1964 an 'experimental paper' was used for the 3d non-phosphor
Crowns watermark which was slightly thicker. It can be distinguished
by the fact that an additional watermark letter "T" lying on its side
occurred about 4 times in the sheet".

No mention of 'thickness' measurement is made, though there are
standardized 'paper thickness' gauges available.

Dave

I have a specialised Widing collection and I think I have a block of these
stamps. I never got around to writing the collection up so it might take me
sometime to find it. When I find it I will
report back.

Dick
