Can I spend a Canadian 2 dollar bill in USA ?

I was going through my stuff and found that I have a Canadian two
collar bill from 1986. What can I do with this in the United States ?

Can I spend it or exchange it somewhere for it's cash dollar value ?

I'm guessing the picture of the Queen would alert people to the fact
that it's not American. Maybe wait for Hilary to become president and
then spent it real quick - say it is a commerative note, and yes
Hilary does look older on TV...

Depends where you live. If it's near the Canadian border, many businesses
accept Canadian money as well as US dollars. But otherwise, it's not worth
bothering to take it to a currency exchange booth as they charge more in
fees than the money is worth.

I had some old Canadian money from a previous trip to Canada, and
apparently Canada changed currency in recent years. This included an
old two. Anyhow when I went to Canada this summer, store clerks refused
to accept my old bills. I took them to a bank for exchange, and the
teller first exchanged them, then bought them for herself.

Some places will accept it, especially near the border. Your bank will
exchange it for you, or you can go to an exchange office. They will
charge you a fee, though.

trying to spread around when I'm next Up North. Hopefully they won't

Canada dumped its $2 note for a coin in 1996.

It is a neat keepsake and at the current exchange rate, for about
US$1.50, it very inexpensive.

What have you got? Put them on eBay. Especially the 1937 ones will sell

A dozen or so 1954 $1 and perhaps 6 1937 $1 notes; a couple deuces -
they're all RAGS! I paid face for them and would rather surprise some
unsuspecting Kanuck than sell on Ebay.

time in the recent past, someone folded the hell out of an UNC 1937
dollar, stuck it in their pocket and laundered it a half dozen times.

I can say that as of a couple of years ago I did spend an older ie 1970's
era Canadian Two over there, that was well after the $2 coins came out.
Nowadays I never see even any of the 1990's era $10's or $5's. As long as
you give them to an older clerk whom might remember seeing such things I
don't suspect you will have a problem. Some of the younger ones might call
the mounties on you
