Why not just answer questions here?
"bowcan" wrote in message ... Hi everyone, Not trolling, just curious since I frequent FPN & have no compliants against it. (Just prefer to have more than one source of information & a.c.p-p is easier sometimes.) But I've noticed a trend here. Someone posts a question & reply comes back: "Dear So&So. Why not head over to FPN? They can answer all your questions." The advice is no doubt well meant, but (as header implies) why not just answer the questions *here* rather than *there*! A matter of convenience & some of us dinosaurs still like Use-Net format where we can easily see 'trees' and topics don't tend to get "lost in the shuffle" as can sometimes happen on busy html bordz. thx! --Bruce a.k.a 'Penseé' at FPN They encourage others to go to FPN as soon as they can because they don't have any real interest in this community and want to ensure that a.c.p-p dies completely. -- ~~Bluesea~~ Spam is great in musubi, but not in email. Please take out the trash before sending a direct reply. |

FPN has ads; Usenet users try to rip people who post ads a new one. Is this guy promo'ing the FPN coming close to spamming? It's all essentially a pointer to a URL. |

I'll continue to do what I do Anyone using Usenet these days has made a decision to do so -- it's not the default net communication protocol (Google and web forums that show up on Google searches are). I know about the FPN, I think I have an account there and I know I've posted there. I find web forums tedious compared to Usenet. If I have multiple interests, I have to subscribe to multiple forums, and log in, search, etc. With Usenet, I sub whatever groups interest me, log on once and read threaded replies and can filter replies from people who I've decided not to read much more easily than on a web forum. And since it's text only, it's faster than a web forum. I doubt seriously that anyone posting here doesn't know about FPN since new users and most of the rest of us are going to Google for information about things we're not that familiar with. That will get you, depending on your interests, fairly quickly to Photo.net, the FPN, various falconry forums, and technical discussion forums, and probably some social groups similar to alt.alien.vampire.flonk.flonk.flonk. Usenet is less time-consuming, less graphics heavy, and gives multiple interests for one log-on. My guess is that anyone posting here knows already about FPN and has made a deliberate choice to stick with Usenet or use Usenet to supplement FPN. Group search isn't the default with Google. |

The only ads I have seen on FPN are in the Classifieds and Market Watch forum; the rest of the forums are ad free. If one wants to avoid ads, it would seem to be obvious to avoid a forum with "Classifieds" in the name. All web forums look alike to me. Okay, so do us a favor and don't just post that FPN has the answers. |

So, why don't you stop worrying about people who know how to Google and chose here anyway? |

Do you actually have something against FPN, and are in reality, trying
to make FPN look bad?? Are you fpnmailinator guy?? Else, why do you bother. l, not -l wrote: On 21-Mar-2009, The Visitor wrote: Hmmm, how would it be if every question at FPN was answered with a redirect to this newsgroup? As a public service...... I was wondering that too! Bet it's the same person & he's angry he didn't get a warmer reception when he made his 'advisory', so now he's a man on a mission-- tell everyone to avoid this "moribund backwater with a lesser pool of experience" or whatever. Personally I think he's actually helping a.c.p.p in his own way. I like fpn well enough-- most everyone there is nice & some are hilarious they way they joke with one another-- the 'old timers' I call them. (I've only been there since October '08 so I'm still a rookie.) l, not -l wrote: On 21-Mar-2009, The Visitor wrote: Hmmm, how would it be if every question at FPN was answered with a redirect to this newsgroup? Seems to me you just had an axe to grind (I mean nib D'oh!) with Griz & now you're maybe you're miffed because the regulars here didn't exactly greet your advisory with open arms? I'd be disappointed too if I thought I was doing the right thing & really did think he might be a crook, but I mean why take it out on everyone else? Did you try taking it up with Admin at fpn? --Bruce |

Remember your own words about not changing minds & how these things usually start to devolve into "****ing contests" I believe you called them. Why don't I try adding alt.flame or alt.alien.vampire.flonk.flonk.flonk to the crosspost? Hi Rebecca, Sorry for tagging onto your post, but yours was last one & thought the following might be of interest. I got curious when I thought I saw an actual *increase* in activity-- not the decrease as our man appears to desire. Having a background in research & statistics, I did a little data comparison & so here is... (Sorry if it's a bit long) Hypothesis: Our FPN enthusiast has helped the very group he wants to harm as demonstrated by significant increases in the number of topics & replies compared to the same two months one year ago. ---- Data: (I didn't count "spam" or off topic posts-- e.g. 'the MI-5guy', mistaken posts to incorrect groups, etc.) ---- February 2008: Number of topics: 13 Number of topics + replies: 24 March 2008: Number of topics 6 Number of topics + replies: 14 --- Average number of topics (February - March 2008): 9.5 Average number of topics & replies (February - March 2008): 19 --- February 2009: Number of topics: 10 Number of topics + replies: 110 March 1 - March 22, 2009: Number of topics: 12 Number of topics + replies: 71 --- Average number of topics (February - March 22, 2009): 11 Average number of topics & replies (February - March 22, 2009: 90.5 --- --- Increase in topics (2008 compared to 2009): approx. 14%. Increase in topics + replies (2008 compared to 2009): approx. 80%. --- So the change in number of topics wasn't statistically significant. But the number of "topics + replies" showed *robust* evidence of significant increase. Caveat: to be fair & objective I should mention that, Descriptive Statistics cannot 'prove' causal relationships. (Ratio data & Inferential Statistics must be used.) Therefore one cannot say who or what caused the huge increase, only that it exists. I leave it to readers to form their own conclusions. thx --Bruce ----- References: Google Groups Search: Alt.Collecting.Pens-Pencils.
