Question for anyone here about online libraries?

A long time ago someone had told me about some sites where you could
read or download books for free(most in PDF format). Sort of like a
library, though it didn't have an extensive collection. This was about
2-3 yrs ago. Are there still online book websites to download books for
free? If you know of any, please let me know. Thanks.

The granddaddy of them all is Project Gutenberg with about 17000 titles
(http://www.gutenberg.org/) which should keep you busy for quite a while.
Due to copyright laws, all of these books are at least 75 years old so don't
look for modern classics there. You can also try browsing through the
Internet Public Libary (http://www.ipl.org/) which is a good source of
reading and reference material of all sorts. There are other metareference
sites such as http://www.ccsu.edu/library/tomaiuol...weblibrary.htm that
can be useful.
