Default Germany query

The Italian painter Giovanni Battista Tiepolo is still haunting me! In my
specialized art catalogue (that refers to Michel) it is mentioned that
Bundesrepublik Deutschland issued a Tiepolo stamp in 1961, Michel 353, and
the same issue for Berlin West, Michel 205.Looking up these issues in Michel
Deutschland I find the long definitive series of "Important Germans".
Number 353, (and 205 for West Berlin) both show the "Baumeister Johann
Balthasar Neumann, 1687-1753" No mention of who did the original painting.

Tiepolo lived 1696-1770, and spent 3 years (1750-1753) in Würzburg, where he
did the ceiling frescoes in the residential palace of the prince-bishop, see
http://shoebox.heindorffhus.dk/tiepo...996-medium.jpg

It could be that Tiepolo painted this gentleman; at least his data show that
he died the year Tiepolo left Würzburg. Are there any Germans around here,
who could help me find out who the Baumeister Neumann was, and whether he
came from Würzburg or the neighbourhood -- and whether he was painted by
Tiepolo?

I would really appreciate any help on this.
Thanks in advance and

Addendum to my below post: If needed a scan of the German 1961-issue
(Baumeister Neumann) is uploaded here

Danke schoen, John
I must have gone "site-blind" when googling, searching etc. This site has
simply slipped my attention -- just goes to prove that four eyes are better
than two ;-)

Rodney, the link worked OK, but a bit slow. I just had it 5 minutes ago and
downloaded it, but when coming back right now it's gone ...

Regards
Mette

Thanks Mette,
Gee, the more I see of the gentlemen, the more I like him.
That's a watercolour right?
He almost deserves a page of his own, boss! ;-)

Yes, it's a fresco. And the page will come on the next rainy Sunday here.
In about 30 minutes I am going to Sweden for a couple of days. See you
around

Mine doesn't, so "Nyeah!" to you. What the text says is

Startseite

gerne entgegengenommen.

And the link from there says

Balthasar Neumann, der Baumeister der Residenz, auf dessen Entwurf das
Gewölbe im Treppenhaus zurückgeht, Darstellung im Fresko auf der
Europaseite.

Brief and rough translation - Tiepolo hung out in Wurzburg and painted his
masterwork, this dirty great fresco. 250 years after it was painted and 55
years since it was last restored, we started restoring it again in 2003.
This guy on it is Bathasar Neumann. (My old German teacher will be spinning
in his grave)
