Default lapping film?

I'm considering trying to smooth one of my nibs a bit. Having read up a
bit on the subject it seems that people like the 3M lapping sheets
(1M?). I've done some google'ing (froogle'ing too), and I haven't found
an obvious place from which to order the sheets.

Can they be found locally? Home Depot and Lowes don't list them. If you
buy them online, in small numbers, and shipping isn't outrageous, where do
you find them?

Thanks,

David

Hi David,

Unfortunately for you, lapping to a 1-micron or smaller finish is
something done only commercially in the machine tool, optical and
fiber-optic industry, so these sheets are not readily available to a
consumer.
Online, you will have to buy 100 sheets; Google on "3M Imperial Lapping
Film". Also google on optical, machinist and fiber-optic supplies. I did and
found several online sources. Locally, look in the yellow pages for
machinist supply, optician's supply and so on. You would be more likely to
buy small quantities from a local industrial supply shop.

Contact either Woodbin or Richard Binder. Both sell film for nib work.
it's not cheap as if buying in bulk but it's not too over the top either.

http://www.simcom.on.ca/woodbin/ Look at "micro-mesh products"

www.richardspens.com

I can't get to richard's site for some reason and I thought that there was
someone else selling the film but can't locate it right now.
