The INFLATED Penny
"Tarapia Tapioco" wrote in message x.it... Will the penny be the big catalyst that will finally wake up the public, and drive gold and silver prices upwards? Maybe. It will soon cost more than a penny to make a penny--again. Last time this happened, they started making zinc pennies, since zinc was cheaper than copper. That was in 1982. And they have already debased the penny as far as they can, now it's 95% zinc. What is cheaper than zinc? Lead? But lead is only slightly cheaper, and much heavier, and poisonous, and that would not work. This may be it, we could reach a breaking point here. Surveys show that the public hates the idea of giving up the penny, and if we do, it's proof that inflation has run it's course, and gone as far as it can go. I can't figure out what is meant by this statement. The existence/lack of a cent piece has no effect on inflation or the rate of inflation. Perhaps you meant that the cent has run it's course and gone as far as it can go. (?) Bill |

I took it as meaning that the cent is/will be a victim of inflation.

Oddly, while most people are opposed to eliminating pennies, most people don't use them! Once they're gone, I bet almost no one will miss them. Its been many years now since we got rid of the 1 and 2 cent pieces in
Australian and I have never heard one person complain that they are gone. Infact, I am often complaining about the number of 5cent pieces I end up with in my change! About 2months after Australia dropped the 1's and 2's, a current affairs
program here aired a story about a guy who would pay for his groceries at the checkout one item at a time! He did this to take advantage of the rounding benefit for each item. As mentioned, the rounding is done on the final total not on the idividual item which is why you would still see prices in supermarkets like $9.99 and $2.57. Mame "A.Gent" wrote in message u... From: Nick Cassaro
What happens if something comes out as something that doesn't round to the .05 cent? Without an example, I must say that, if the rule is that the standard shall be to always "round up" to the next 5¢, this could never happen. Something, in this case, that has a price of $0.0000001 will cost a nickel. 8-| - Coin Saver |
