Default Dansco URL

Anybody know the URL of Dansco or a parent company ? A Google search just
turmed up dealers.

I don't think they are online. If you need address or phone, post again
and I'll supply them.

Funny you should ask, as I took a stab at it yesterday, www.dansco.com and
ended up with a dance costume company! Guess I will have to call them myself.

I have encountered hole size problems with not only Dansco, but also Library
of Coins and Whitman. They'll tell you that since the diameter of the early
coins varied so much they made a hole large enough for the largest coin you
could encounter for a given date. The worst problem is a hole too small for
the coin.

In the case of oversized holes, I've had good luck with a bushing system.
If you have an old discarded album you can take one of the slides and cut it
into strips as wide as the album page is thick and through experimentation
you can "bush" the inside perimeter of the opening. On really serious
cases, it may require going around twice or more.

Thanks for the info!! They're about a mile or two from me. I can go
and complain in person about the Bust Quarter albums and the terrible
holes! (Wrong sizes for the coins) :-)

That's pretty much what Capital Plastics recommends as well for ports
that may be a bit oversized due to some of the obsolete coinage being
struck without collars. Even if you don't have any mylar slide
material, you can use Acetate, which is readily available (often by
the single sheet) from an art supply store.

Thanks, Andrew and James. Sounds like a good idea. I'll give it a
try. You are absolutely right about the holes that are too small. I
sometimes wonder if that might be one of the reasons for so many bent
earlies. :-)

On a side note,

In regards to using Acetate slides as replacement slides in Dansco albums,
does anyone have any idea if the material in the "acetate sheets" will tone,
or even worse, harm coins like PVC?

Thanks

Specific answer is no, the acetate will not tone the coins. However, they can
scratch coins as you slide them across. The albums themselves however "may"
tone your silver pieces. I can't figure it out as many of my coins in Dansco
albums have toned, and others have not. It seems that the .999 and .925 have a
tendency to tone where as .900 and less don't. If anyone has an answer to that,
I would be happy to hear it.
