Default What is Paris Hilton Reading in Jail?

Curious? Last Tuesday (June 12th), París Hilton got a new book in the
mail. A copy of 'Daydreams & Nightmares' by James E. F. Riley, Sr.
( ISBN: 1-4116-7924-5, available at: www.lulu.com/content/210331 ) was
delivered to her at the L.A. County Jail.

'Daydreams & Nightmares is a collection of poems and dark, short
stories, in the genre of 'Tales From the Crypt' and 'The Twilight
Zone.'

The author of 'Daydreams & Nightmares,' James E. F. Riley, Sr. is
currently recovering from spinal surgery in West Texas, where he lives
with his wife Cristina and their three children.

The Edmonton Sun called Mr. Riley's work '...a profound unraveling of
emotion.' He was also voted on for the Reader's Choice award, by the
readers of 'Anotherealm.'

Bosh. Just because you sent her this piece of self-published spammer
twaddle, doesn't mean she'd stoop to read it.

On the other hand, in what way is her reading it to be considered a
glowing recommendation? (Maybe it's as complex as - oh, I don't know -
"My Pet Goat" ... )

Oh! But the author is handicapped, so that makes it a thing of....
.....whatever. As soon as the "buy this because I'm [whatever]..."
card comes out, I bail.

No, last week the L.A. County's dumpster got a new book tossed into
it, along with the other 8 tons of unsolicited mail addressed to her
in prison which this young woman undoubtedly gave the county
permission to burn unopened.

That's because she never saw the word "orthopedic" before.

Riley, you say?!!! Well, she should have been
reading JAMES WHITCOMB Riley. THAT would
teach her something valuable about life. For
instance, Paris would greatly benefit from reading
"Little Orphant Annie." Riley's endearing
masterpiece is a poem about a girl who did not
have everything handed to her on a silver platter,
and who had to earn her keep, in fact, by doing
housework and caring for the children of the
adopted home. Yet, instead of being mean
and resentful about her humble state in life, Little
Orphant Annie was very important in the moral
development of her charge, by explaining, in a
colorful and entertaining way, what would happen
if they strayed from the path. Sadly, Paris
would seem to be the opposite of Little Orphant
Annie. Paris has had everything given to her,
and she is a terrible example to young people.
If somehow she had been given a copy of
Riley's poems, she might have been ashamed
over the way she has been acting and might
have changed. Of course, for the sake of
argument here I am assuming that the media
image of Paris is correct, and -- to be fair --
that might not be the case...

Spine? Well, that ties in also. I can't recall
the title of Riley's poem, but -- if memory serves
me -- the first line was, "I'm 'ist a little cripple boy" --
and, as it transpired, the boy had "curvature of
the spine," and his problems were worsened by
the fact that his father "killed a man in this here
town and couldn't pay his fine". I am not sure
of the connection between James *E. F.* Riley
and James WHITCOMB Riley, but it would seem
that there some intriguing connections. Maybe
James E. F. Riley is James Whitcomb Riley's
great grandson! Strange, the way things
connect, isn't it?
