Speaking of Pens & Ink
I'm having a strange experience with Baystate Blue. In my fine Pilot Prera, it comes out as an extra-fine line. In my Kaweco Sport Ices, with fine and medium nibs, and my fine Pilot Petit1, it lays down medium lines. I'm having to write with the nib upside-down to get the fine line I want. I used to get a fine-medium line from the Ices, but that's broadened for some reason. Has anyone else experienced this? I want a fine line, I'm getting EF or M lines even from fine pens, and am puzzled because I've never had anything like this happen before. -- ~~Bluesea~~ Spam is great in musubi, but not in email. Yes, I've had similar experiences with Bay State, and other inks like
Diamine's Prussian Blue. It sometimes takes me several tries to match pen and ink for desired performance. In the case of the Bay State Blue I finally got a very clean fine line with my Namiki Falcon with an EF nib. The hint of flexibility in the nib also adds a dramatic effect to sweeping lines that I appreciate. I have been quite pleased with the marriage of the two. Gordon |

I've been using BSB in a Montblanc Starwalker (in Cool Blue, so the pen color is almost exactly the same as the ink), but the pen has begun to bore me, and I've been considering replacing it with another pen dedicated to BSB. -- _Deirdre web: http://deirdre.net blog: http://dsmoen.livejournal.com/ "Memes are a hoax! When I loaded a Parker 51 Vac with Bay State, it gushed. It was the most unpredictable ink I have ever owned. And when it stained my Lamy Safari I began to cry like a schoolgirl j/k. |

It seems to be more successful in gold-nibbed pens. -- _Deirdre web: http://deirdre.net blog: http://dsmoen.livejournal.com/ "Memes are a hoax! Pass it on!" |

I wondered what would happen with the white Kaweco section, but it did absolutely nothing. It was the same as if it was water. -- ~~Bluesea~~ Spam is great in musubi, but not in email. I didn't refill my fine Falcon after cleaning out the cartridge of its build-up of Legal Lapis, so all I have to do is move the Prera cartridge over to the Falcon. I'm going to go try it right now. -- ~~Bluesea~~ Spam is great in musubi, but not in email. Please take out the trash before sending a direct reply. |

Go to the drug store and tell the pharmacist you want some personal lubricant. Take that and mix it up with some water in a small bottle or vial, about 1 to 4 or something like that. Take about a drop or two or three of that and put it in the converter or the cartridge of Baystate Blue. The pen will then write much wider. You can do the same thing with dishwashing soap, in about the same proportions. But the ink will be more washable, believe it or not--less water resistant. As far as what to do with the rest of the personal lubricant, start a new thread in the chatter forum at FPN and ask for some suggestions. Maybe Old Griz or somebody can give you some tips on what to use it for. When I loaded a Parker 51 Vac with Bay State, it gushed. It was the most unpredictable ink I have ever owned. Take the safari and then put it up an orifice and rotate it. If you have any questions about which orifice to use, ask on FPN. |

When someone walks by and asks, "why does your pen smell like Astro-Glide?" you must made a friend for life..... |

Dude, I don't know--that's not the kind of question--like, I can't picture Sandra Bullock coming out and asking a question like that--she'd be a little more discreet. Like, I've never used that stuff myself for any legitimate reason. For more so called normal activities, you don't need any "personal lubricant". So the kind of people who know what that stuff smells like--I might want to steer clear of those types. |
