Default coin sets - any value over the coins in them?

Over the years I have received as gifts several different coin sets
which were sold by various companies. They are sets like a WW1&WW2
Lincoln set, an American Nickel (type) set, a Mercury Dimes decades
collection with a Mercury dime from each decade, etc. Most of the
coins in the sets are well circulated and low grade, but there are a
few better grade coins. Even with the occasional better grade coin I'm
sure the sets cost several times more than the total value of the
coins in them.

Anyway, I am thinking of breaking the coins out of the sets and
putting the low grade coins in tubes with other coins of the same
types and the handful of better coins in single coin holders, such as
Air-Tites which I'm a big fan of. However, before I do I wanted to
know if there is any collector value to coin sets beyond the coins
they contain? That is, does anyone ever seek out set 123 by company
XYZ and pay a premium over the price of the coins? Thanks.

Well, you might get a tad more selling such a set on eBay than selling
the coins individually. Then again, you may not. But why break them up
anyway?

Agreed. The coins will never be worth *less* by leaving them in their
holders. Who knows? Years later you may be glad you kept them that way.

Good point. I will leave them intact for now, unless I decide to start
a date set and need a particular coin. Maybe if I keep the sets long
enough they'll be worth something.

I always wondered, if you love collecting coins. Then what is the
point of selling them, unless you owe a **** load of bills, or want
another coin?

Those items seem like they'd look good in a curio cabinet.
