I wonder what will happen if we decide to go the Euro way

Or just join in on the Euro program ...

I do not think you can join for a multitude of reasons. The most important
is that your deficit is too high.

Oh well, such conditions can be handled in, ahem, a flexible way. Just
ask the French and German governments, and the European Council :-/
What is worse, though: The Americans would want filthy rag euros instead
of our nice ¤1 and ¤2 coins ...

FWIW, quite a few stores in Euroland do not accept ¤200 notes at all.
Even paying with ¤100 can be difficult these days - that one and the ¤50
note are the most "popular"denominations among counterfeiters.

Are the Italians and Austrians crypto-Americans?

In Austria this is not really a big issue any more AFAIK; don't know
about Italy. But I am fairly sure that, if you asked people in Euroland
whether they want such low value notes, most would say No. And I
strongly believe that _is_ different from the results you would get in
the US :-)

Actually, most Americans wouldn't care whether the low values are
notes or coins.

Guess that is why in the US dollar coins are about as popular as dollar
notes ...

The greater concern might be over the switch from
dollar to euro, however.

Indeed. And I did not suggest that g.
