I can't make the grade.
Don't be alarmed, I just can't grade MS coins with consistency.
I submitted a group of classic commemorative halfs to ICG several years ago and ICGs grades were pretty much 2 points less than the grade I gave the coins. I have piggybacked some submissions with another rcc'er and received the grades I pretty much anticipated. I submitted 4 coins to PCGS a year ago and received pretty much the grades I expected. I just recently submitted six WL halfs to PCGS and for 5 of the six I was again a 2 point overgrader. For those who would like to take a look at my images and read my comments, click the link below. It is 566 kb and shows the six walker submissions and one PCGS graded coin that I used to determine what coins would likely pay to submit. All seven coins were taken with the same settings; Nikon Coolpix 5200, under two candescent lamps, and images were not edited other than sizing and cropping. Perhaps some of you might have enlightening observations, e.g.; "Thatdamn Krummel is a 2 point overgrader" Bill. |

I've never been able to grade a Walker from a picture -- but PCGS has been very tough on late date Walkers for a while. In particular, they seem to be downgrading for strike weakness and subdued lustre. To see if your expectations were realistic, take a quick look at Liberty's right hand on the obverse and the Eagle's breast on the reverse from a slight angle. -- Michael Benveniste -- Spam and UCE professionally evaluated for $419.
