Worldwide booklet checklist progress
I've made progress on a checklist of worldwide moisture-activated
booklets, just as deep as Scott major number. I have SEIs Alaouites - Angra, alphabetically, done. This essentially just means Algeria, French Andorra, and Angola -- can't find the others offering booklets. Anyone want to help with this cataloging task (Scott catalogue PDFs help with this)? Anyone know of, or want to help organize, a worldwide booklets study unit, or at least a wiki? Anyone ever been through the process of trying to license Scott numbers for use in a private catalogue or website (my own experience is cease-and-desist letters)? And finally: any suggestions for catalogues covering those three countries' booklets in more depth? -- Joshua H. For private usage, without any capital exchanging hands, Scott "licensing" may be possible with a simple well-written letter. If some mere mortal as I can get permission to use obscure Belgian O, P, Q and PP (yes, PeePee) numbers - oops, forgot M's, then just about anyone can. They will be deeply embedded in my railroad related database. Yvert "may" be good for the French related. Afinsa "may" be good for the Portuguese related. Has anyone else tried with other publishers? I am going to try C.O.B., Balasse (dealers) and a few others down the road. |

Tracy,
the problem with established catalogue publishers is that they don't want their (copy-righted?) numbering system to be used nor do they want to change anything even though new research has been made and has shown that changes are necessary . To take the Dutch booklets as an example, I don't particularly like the NVPH nor de Rooy's handling of booklets as in some respects they are not state of the art. I'm working out a survey of my own and publish in on the internet., All remarks are welcome: http://www.galeoptix.nl/fila/nl_ihb00.htm or http://www.galeoptix.nl/fila/nl_ihbl0.htm groetjes, Rein Op Sat, 24 May 2008 00:58:36 +0200 schreef : On Fri, 23 May 2008 13:20:50 GMT, Joshua McGee wrote: I've made progress on a checklist of worldwide moisture-activated booklets, just as deep as Scott major number. So, we both see 2 problems he loss of copyright control or the publisher looking bad. No doubt they attempt some damage control when a real issue arises, but when the competition is outshining them they need to excel or call it quits. If it's posted out there, someone may use it. This leads to alternative methods of thinking. A fellow collector pointed me to http://www.booklets.nl/index.asp -- a wondrous playhouse for the booklet collector! I thought I would share the link. Among other features, they offer a new issue service that they claim provides many booklets that many other services disregard or otherwise miss. -- Joshua H.
