However, for modern stamps, that is a different story. NB: This also applies to personalized stamps. ... Is the art or picture on a stamp copyrighted?? Certain participants were even victims of harassment, and they got some advice from specialists and amateurs. I was musing on this and wondered how, if pictures of stamps are an infringement of copyright (in the was that a picture of a Rolls Royce isn't), then how on earth do Stanley Gibbons et al manage to get clearance from all of the hundreds of postal authorities who own the copyright to all the images they publish? |

They get permission perhaps. As they almost always want confirmation from the postal authorities that the stamp is genuinely issued they will be on contact. [And if you think this is unlikely, consider that many territories are represented by the Crown Agents or other agencies, which reduces the number. The cat editor told me once that they had great difficulty in getting any info at all from Saudi Arabia and couldn't say when those pages would be updated. I think 1 stamp was added between 3 annual editions of SOTW. Anyway, back to copyright - see www.royalmail.com/ip Ian Billings Norvic Philatelics |
