Default where is Travancore ?

Hello:

1st off thanks for your up most in all of your posts to this group !
My hat is off but it will show my bald head.

Next, where is TRAVANCORE and maybe I spelled it wrong, but I had a
kilo mix sent to me and I found some of them in there. Some kind of
Indian, Pakistani, or Burma area of the old world ?

I have enjoyed all of anyone's posts to this area. I research all
items ever so slight, but I am a LURKER that appreciates all of you.

That is an interesting map you have there Rodney. I see it shows
Madras as still part of the Nizam's Dominions. I suspected you of
conservative leanings, but turning the clock back that far? (Though
I've failed to find another, more recent, map of a suitable size.)

Tony, I nicked it from Wikipedia.
Google "Travancore wiki", and there it is
I'll rummage through my rubbish and see if I have another example.
One needs differing maps to accomodate name changes.

I'd check on that Barry,
that appears to be Tamil (Toothukudi)
Tamil Nadu State which is the Eastern side of the Ghat Mountains
Google Madurai and Tuticorin

.....and for your "useless information" file
Toothukudi is the Macaroon capital of India,

The Macaroon, a tasy coconut delight made famous by
"Ernie, the fastest milkcart in the West"

"Now Ernie had a rival, an evil-looking man,
Called Two-Ton Ted from Teddington and he drove the baker's van.
He tempted her with his treacle tarts and his tasty wholemeal bread,
And when she seen the size of his hot meat pies it very near turned her head.

She nearly swooned at his macaroon and he said, "If you treat me right,
You'll have hot rolls every morning and crumpets every night."
He knew once she sampled his layer cake he'd have his wicked way,
And all Ernie had to offer was a pint of milk a day."

Chapeau l'artiste
Mr. Benny Hill

An excellent map, Rodney. I've bookmarked it ... in case I should
ever suffer a brainstorm, and start collecting Travancore seriously.
