Suspension of postal service between Britain and France
Can anyone tell me when postal service between Great Britain and France
was suspended in the Second World War, and when it resumed? I have a cover that is marked "Service Suspended / Return to Sender". It is postmarked in Montreal in late May, and was on a ship that was torpedoed on June 7. The Germans attacked France on June 5, and occupied Paris on June 10. The "Service Suspended" handstamp was apparently applied in Liverpool. Bob |

Oops! Got those dates wrong! The "Battle of France" began on June 5, 1940, but German forces had been in France from May 20. Paris was occupied on June 14, not the June 10. Now that that's taken care of -- I think! -- does anyone have any information about the cessation of postal service between Great Britain and France? Bob |
