Default question

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MEWN:IT

I just purchased this on EBAY and when I looked at the shipping it stated
$26.00 within the United States. when I Received the invoice from the seller
they added an extra $15.00 in the fine print of the ad it does state that if
you live west of the Mississippi I should add $15.00 extra for shipping.

My question is this right for the seller to do that it seems to me that it
is kind of sneaky and deceptive that the seller tags an extra $15.00 profit
if you are west of the Mississippi. I just received an identical Penny bag
from a seller in NJ that shipped UPS and It cost me $24.00 so I do not
understand the justification for the additional $15.00 can anybody explain
this to me or do I need to contact EBAY for this and see why this is going
on??

thanks
Roy

I know that it sure seems sneaky, but I think when you list an auction, the
way the seller described the differences in shipping to different locations
is maybe the only way it can be done, unless it is included in the
description. When I sell on eBay, I in fact do include shipping charges in
the auction description, but I am sure many sellers don't, since eBay
provides specific areas for shipping on the eBay listing form. In one area
on the form, you can put in a dollar amount, which is where you saw the $26.
Another area in the shipping section allows for verbal explanation, which is
where the additional $15 is given. I checked the USPS website and there
seems to be a big difference in shipping charges for weighty packages. Pre
1982 bags of 5,000 cents weigh approx. 34 1/4 lbs. Shipping from NJ to
Seneca, Missouri calculated to $35. Then I did a calculation for NJ to
Sacramento California and was told $62. A big difference.

So, if I were to list the bag auction, and I knew of the big differences in
shipping charges, and I used my auction description for product description
only and used the shipping area of the form for shipping specifics, I would
probably do something very similar to what your seller did.

Imo, I would not think badly of the seller and chalk it up as a learning
experience.

BTW, post 1982 bags weigh less and cost less to ship ( $28.50 & $50).

Bill

If you were going to challenge the shipping charges as stated in the
description, the time to do that would be before you bid.

A contract is a contract.
