Default Search unit problem

This is my first post, so bear with me. I recently acquired a TI-1. It supposedly worked at one time, but currently doesn't. It's set for free play. I push a selection, the search unit starts and runs, and runs, and runs until I flip the switch. I get a small spark on the right side of the search unit like it's trying to make contact. Any ideas? Thanks.

Get a copy of the service manual and go over the Search Unit
adjustments, plus clean the contacts on the wipers and (burnish) the
relay switchs for same. Often this requires dismantling the unit and
polishing the contact boards with a pencil eraser to get the contact
surfaces nice and shiny again. Also check the condition of the wiper
blades, they should all look something like a sideways "L".

Your problem could also be corroded contacts in the keyboard switches.
Try some contact cleaner & work the selector buttons. DON'T use
WD-40. Ray
