National Bicentennial Medal 1976
Today, Barry Stuppler & Co is apparently offering the small gold
National Bicentennial Medal (a very good thing to own) on ebay but they are claiming it nets 0.42 troy ounces of gold. Very prominently claimed several times. Shouldn't it be 0.24 ounces troy gold??? I always thought the medals were 0.24, 1.167 and then the big one whatever it is (4 ounces troy+). Makes a big difference in what a person should pay for it. I know the price I paid for mine wasn't anything close to 1/2 ounce of gold. |

The 1977 "Coin World Almanac" lists the small medal at .37 fine troy oz., the medium medal at 1.167 fine troy oz. and the large medal at 13.18 fine troy oz. It's a reference I always keep handy because of the 56-page Chapter 1 on "Bicentennial Numismatics" ... -- Ken Barr Numismatics P. O. The Bicentennial small gold auction got a very good price, but since
the seller has an inaccurate idea of how much gold is in this piece, the reserve was set too high. The only requirement for calling yourself a "professional" numismatist is that you aren't mute. Knowledge doesn't enter into it! oly oly wrote: That's a better reference than I have at my fingertips, but physically it appears that the small Gold Bicentennial medal is very close to the same as a traditional five dollar gold piece. If there is a difference, I'd be surprised. oly Ken Barr wrote: In article . com, "oly" wrote: Today, Barry Stuppler & Co is apparently offering the small gold National Bicentennial Medal (a very good thing to own) on ebay but they are claiming it nets 0.42 troy ounces of gold.
