Well, AntiNudo and I have valid ideas...Nudo knows nothing. His
"basic cert" in "electronics" was probably how to jump start a dead
battery in a junk car.

direct quote from trippin-2-8...
"don't listen to that DeserTBob guy- he gives repair advice, and when
a person does it, it ends up ruining their receiver and tape deck- the
guy is a poser" snip

Another "Dishwasher Charlie" Nudo lie.

"I have a cert in basic electronics snip

BWAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!

, and have been repairing/buying/
selling stereos on the net and ebay now, for 7 years- snip

Should you need any proof of this oaf's ineptitude, allow me to start
referencing all his posts about his failed attempts to do a simple
troubleshooting job on a valuable Fisher 800C awhile back...hilarious!
This moron doesn't know what the polarity of an electrolytic capacitor
means, nor what a capacitor does. He's completely inept, a simpleton
eBay hustler out to make a buck off of both you and this guy with the
tuckered out electronics shop in one of the most economically
distressed regions of the United States.

For more on this wad of excrement Charlie Nudo, see:

http://nudowatch.blogspot.com

my partner has
been in business for 30 years- what I can't fix, I take over there,
and we always end up fixing it- most times it is only 1 or 2 small
components to solder in- but it has to be isolated and troubleshooted
first, to find what's wrong- that's the hard part" snip

"Troubleshooted" isn't even a word, "Dildow." It's "troubleshot."

"Dishwasher Charlie," repeat this 100 times before you go to
bed..."DING! Fries are done!" Then, go apply for a job at the
Wendy's over by the CAN'T DO BUSINESS/BERYLLIUM POISONING CENTER up by
I-80.

I do agree with AntiNudo...the culprit indeed could be a dried out
axial electrolytic decoupling cap in the signal path...easy fix, if
you have any clue about repair, which it doesn't appear you do. I'd
take it to a shop and get it done by someone with some experience and
proper techniques. Sometimes these will simply show up as attenuation
of the signal, while the DC bias voltages will appear near normal,
although sometimes you'll also note missing bass response in the
attenuated channel.

Hey, Noodles! Are you paying taxes on your "business" you do with
Stola? A phone call in the AM will find that out.

You'd be far better off taking it to someone local to you...assuming
you can find one. Even if you go for online repair, better to send
the unit directly to this guy's shop rather than go through our
resident scumbag.

What is the current state of other cities and good local old
school repair shops? We are fortunate in Winnipeg to have a shop with three
older guys (one being the owner) past retirement age that continue on
keeping shop. They are always busy and have done some good work for me on
several turntables and an 8 track deck or two over the years. A pretty great
resource to have around and they are highly prized by our local population. snip

Down here, they're all but gone. "Disposable" Chinese electronics
have completely obviated their work, and not too many people want work
done on a 30 year old Sylvania TV. Thus, it's a dead small business.

Thanks DesertBoB. Its not that hard to live with, but its just easier
to find a better, working one someplace else. And when i do get a
better one, ill try to fix my current one, that way i can screw it up
all i want.

Well, your choice, but spending more money on a duplicate receiver
seems a bit much, when an axial electrolytic's about a buck, and an
output transistor's just a little more. Maybe AntiNudo will fix it
for you...he knows what's up and is surely reliable. I don't take
repairs by mail anymore...major hassle for me when I have other stuff
going on.
