Commemorative Coin Depicts USS North Dakota

2/12/2009

The Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce played a
role in securing the naming of a Virginia-Class
submarine after North Dakota.

The chamber celebrated today with the unveiling
of the first in a series of four commemorative
coins. It depicts a submarine with a North
Dakota flag flying in the background on the
front. On the back of the coin, the original
USS North Dakota battleship crest is rendered.

"We support this effort and build this
relationship with the USS North Dakota," says
Gov. John Hoeven. "That`s what today is all
about and that`s what this first battle coin
is about. It is a fundraising effort as well
as a wonderful memento."

The coins are available at the Bismarck-Mandan
Chamber of Commerce, at 1640 Burnt Boat Drive
in Bismarck. Proceeds will support activities
related to the USS North Dakota.

Another example of ignorance of the difference between coins and
medals?
