Ripped and torn stamps.
.... a further consideration may include the instances
where stamps have been torn purposely as a cancellation method. Was it the early stamps of Afghanistan that had the corners bitten off? Certainly it would include some cinderellas, the Coolgardie Express labels. |

Ripped and torn stamps.
Yup - that was the accepted way of cancelling early Afghan stamps.
On a similar topic, the only valid use for the high value 1897 Jubilee issue was on large parcels which meant they received what I have always referred to as a bicycle cancel meaning they look like someone has ridden a bike across them. And yet those with a nice pretty CDS sell for much more. Not that it makes much diff to me - my set stops at 50 cents and always will. "For all sad words of tongue and pen .....". I once had an opportunity to
buy a complete, used, imperfect Jubilee set and didn't. My holdings stop at 50 cents too. -- Tony Vella Ottawa, Ontario, Canada http://www.amedialuz.ca/ "John Mycroft" wrote in message .. .
