Condition: Businees Strike
US Mint Coin
The mint is releasing a 2009 ultra high relief double eagle gold coin condition: business strike date:2009 mint: west point mint mark: none diameter: 27mm thickness: 4mm composition: 24-karat (.999) fine gold weight: 1.0001 troy ounce (31.108g) Why would the mint release a high relief gold double eagle in business strike and not proof? Has anybody seen the coin when they where touring at some of the large coin shows? |

"Arizona Coin Collector" wrote in message ... Hello I read the same thing on the information the U.S. Mint sent me in the Mail. Odd not to have NO MINT MARK on this gold coin minted at West Point. Business strike -- Term devised by Walter Breen to describe a coin intended for circulation in the channels of commerce (as opposed to a Proof coin, specifically struck for collectors). Synonym: Circulation strike. Hi, They expended resources to create the high relief coin but not a proof coin. It just occurred to me that maybe the stamping dies, which were somehow created digitally, just aren't good enough for proof coins. On the mint website they describe how the coins were displayed at coin shows but nobody I know has seen them. I collect coins for their beauty not so much for their historical value. I wonder if I can return the gold high relief if it isn't quite up to my standards? |

The originals were matte proofs, which were not brilliant at all and
look much like what the Mint calls "uncirculated" quality in their NCLT offerings. ---- Frank Provasek Rare Coins http://www.frankcoins.com Ebay FRANKCOINS Member ANA, Texas Numismatic Assoc, Texas Coin Dealers Assoc, PCGS, NGC, & ANACS authorized dealer, Texas Auctioneer Lic 11259 |
