Whitman Classic Type Set Album #9138
Anyone know what all is included in the Whitman Classic Type Set Album
#9138. I asked the same question about the Dansco album last week, and received a very nice list. I'm trying to decided between these two albums. I like the Dansco, but don't really like the price. Anyone have an opinion? Skip |

I have #9046, the 20th Century Type Coins "folder" but was looking for information on the #9138 United States Type Set "album" (with the posts). Let me know if there really isn't that much difference between the two, that will pretty much make me decide to get the Dansco. Thanks again, Skip |

This is for 9138, the Classic album for 20th Century Type Coins.
If you decide to buy the Dansco, I'd recommend you have one in hand first, as they have gone through several different editions of it. IIRC, the latest has a bunch of PRINTED openings for commems. Whitman made a 2-album set in the Bookshelf line around 1960. These go all the way back to 1793, but are exceedingly difficult to find today. If you REALLY would like nice albums for type coins, look for the old Library of Coins set. More info on those if you like. I remain at your service. "Skip Waisner" wrote in message ... Please see this ebay listing as reference: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...9531 571&rd=1 The title on the album in the picture reads "United States Type Set" and appears to be the album that has the posts in it so you could add pages, with the pages that have the clear plastic slides, similar to the Dansco albums. Is the listing you gave for this album? The only reason I ask is that it is almost identical to the #9046 folder that I already have, with the regular "click in" die cut holes. Thanks for sticking with me on this one. Skip |

Nay, it is I who should be thanking YOU. I just looked at my album again.
The album I own and that I described is #9139, not #9138. My eyes have deceived me (hope it doesn't happen when I am looking at coins!). I was not aware that an album simply titled US Type Set existed. Now I am the one who is confused. Please bear with me and I will try to find the answer to this dilemma. Just for the record, I also own a Dansco album (NOT folder) for Mexico 50 centavos that I bought at a small club show, still in shrinkwrap. When I called Dansco, even THEY did not know of the existence of a product THEY made 30 years ago. "Skip Waisner" wrote in message ... Today I had the opportunity to query two guys who deal in supplies, both new
and used. Both indicated they "kind of remembered" a Whitman Classic type album, but neither had any recollection of what coins it called for. From this I conclude that the copyright date must have been in the 70s or early 80s. I see the seller has at least two of the 9138 for sale. Maybe you should email him, ask the number of pages, and that might be an indication of the contents. "Skip Waisner" wrote in message ... Actually, I did a thorough search of the web, including your website. You
list a 9139, but not a 9138. It is the 9138 that is in question. Do you have a 9138? It is titled U.S. Type Set (NOT 20th Century U.S. Type Set). "Andrew Auletta" wrote in message ...
