update:
here's the link to the streaming software for WQMA radio 1520 Oldies from Mississippi Delta right now via streamer sound is stereo MP3 quality 65kbps it sounds GOOD- IMO better than the digital being played in between the 8-track cuts ! good thing I sent a serviced deck in- their other deck quit ! If you're tuning in your are hearing the 8-tracks via a DC motored Craig playback deck- basic unit- but it sounds quite good regardless. |

well so far there's been mentions for Noah Cope, DeserTBob, and myself
on the show. A disco tape from a local thrift there jammed, one James Brown tape just didn't play- but otherwise it was great ! |

I went to the site but too late. Ach, it says it is 97 degrees there. The plastic cartridges are going to melt. Keep us informed if this is happening next week or if it is archived. Thanks. WWW |

Ach, it says it is 97 degrees there snip 97°F is a cool day here. 110°F is more the norm, although we've had that with a strange phenomenon this year...humidity. Been a beastly summer, but now we're back to dry heat, and I'm back to my swampie cooler, saving incredible amounts of electricity. |

ok, I'll try to answer the questions-
the next show is scheduled for next Thursday from 1-4 PM central time I don't know if there's an official archive, but I did dub the show to 8-track from my computer while it was playing- hard wired from the computer into a Roberts 808D inputs. I missed some of it when the mono link dropped out at first, and also when one blank tape of mine didn't switch tracks in the 808D (typical), but I got 95% of the show recorded. the carts I remember being played were Cat Stevens, Simon & Garfunkel, War, Kiss, Creedence, LOTS of cuts from the Elvis Twin Pack tape (being it was Elvis week as well), Tony Orlando and Dawn, Billy Thorpe, Chicago. There may have been a few others but that's all I remember. Sound quality overall of the Craig deck I dontated was VERY GOOD. He also plays a few digital songs in between to fill in while getting the carts ready, etc.- the difference in the sound is obvious- the 8-tracks have more bass and depth and a fuller sound ! He even remarked how surprised he was- that the tapes sounded as good as they did. From what I can glean, the show will continue as long as working 8-track tapes are donated to play. I highly recommend all 8-trackers to tune in, and if you donate tapes fix them first- put new pads in and resplice the tapes and lube if needed. A dragging or rattling tape, or jammed tape, or tapes with shot pads, or flipped tape/broken splices, does them no good. IMO they needs tapes he can plug in and rely on- but I did offer to fix any/all tapes they have if they ship them up here to Pa. Noah Cope also offered his repair services. It's best to cue the tape to beginning before sending it- as they don't have time to cue them all up on the show. One of the best parts of the show was when he would put a cart in, then switch from track to track looking for a song they liked. He also let a few carts play through the channel switch with fade in/fade outs as recorded. And quite a few carts he would just leave in, and between songs do station and show id, before the next song began. It was cool ! They tried a few carts they got locally at a thrift near the station- of course those tapes were unreliable- one disco tape had shot pads and was double tracking and playing muffled so they pulled it out- another bootleg Grease tape came to a grinding halt "RRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrpp" on the air. And a James Brown tape simply didn't play at all. |
