1961 Topps #25, Reds' Heavy Artillery
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reds' Heavy Artillery, Topps #25 baseball card is shown here, both front and back: http://home.triad.rr.com/ovis/images...rtillery-a.jpg http://home.triad.rr.com/ovis/images...rtillery-b.jpg Vada Pinson, Gus Bell, and future Hall Of Famer Frank Robinson made up this card in the '61 set. Pinson and Bell were outfielders for the 1960 Reds, along with Wally Post, after his arrival in mid-June in a trade with the Phillies. Frank played some outfield, but was mostly at first base. In 1961, the year of this card, Robinson was moved to the outfield with Pinson, while Bell and Post were both used to fill out the order. The trio shown on this card would hit for a combined ..320 average in this pennant winning year for the Reds, with 56 home runs. Pinson and Bell would both die within a few months of each other in 1995. Gus Bell is the father of five time All-Star Buddy Bell, and grandfather of Major League players David, and Mike Bell. I won't get into the individual careers of these three now, since they all have their own cards coming up. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- John Wade |
