FATHER OF THREE JAILED FOR COIN SCAM

23 February 2009

A postman who stole £13,000 from London Underground ticket
machines using coins wrapped in silver foil has been
locked up for six months.

Darren Dorsett, 31, and younger brother Martin, 19,
caused hours of delays to commuters when they jammed
machines with up to 30 foil-wrapped ten pence pieces
at a time.

A flaw in the system meant the machines would then
dispense 50p coins when the thieves pressed the refund
button.

Southwark Crown Court heard the brothers teamed up
with junkies Hazel Macdonald, 24, and Walehi Singh,
31, to target stations across London in a nine month
crime spree.

The gang were caught on August 8, 2007, after they
were seen covering coins in foil at a bus shelter
near Snaresbrook tube station.

Father-of-three Darren Dorsett was jailed for six
months for his 'central role' in the scam.

Martin was let off with a 12 month community order,
ordered to do 40 hours unpaid work and attend an
offenders' programme.

Macdonald and Singh will be sentenced at a later date
so further probation reports can be compiled.

The Dorsett brothers, of Heron Drive, Green Lanes,
Finsbury Park; Singh, of Barnbury Estate, Islington,
and Macdonald, of Reed Road, Tottenham, all admitted
conspiracy to steal.

Thank goodness that most thieves are really stupid. They couldn't wrap them
in foil back at the crack house?
