Default $1,025 Bid for This??

"Stardancer" tossed out a query to the group, by asking:
Any rational idea of why this bid is where it is?

After looking at the current price guides and doing some mental assessment
of the coin, I am bereft of ideas as to why the bid has soared to that
level. So at the risk of waxing eloquent, I'll just answer your question
with "Because someone wants it *awfully* bad." ;-)

Bidder 11: "I'm gonna own me a cleaned seated dollar with an obverse rim
bump."

Bidder 14: "We'll see about that."

Bid is at $384.99. Where were you getting $1,025? Did someone retract?

I'm seeing the high bid at $385, which would be about the price of a
"normal" dollar of that date and grade. I'm convinced that many coins like
this are being bought by true collectors with modest budgets who will
overlook some condition problems that more picky collectors will avoid.
Problems like stains, "old cleanings", rim bumps, and even holes can lower
the price of an otherwise high grade example of a tough coin to a level
where a modest but enthusiastic collector could afford it. However in this
particular case, the bidder may have been better served by searching out a
no-problem example at about the same price.

I admit to having bought a several attractive EF-AU Seated Liberty and Trade
Dollars with holes at a G-VG price. I look beyond the holes when I admire
these high grade dollars for their beauty. Just wouldn't be quite the same
with a true G-VG example. I would probably even prefer a holed 1793 cent in
nice VF over a one in G with no problems.

Bidder 11 cancelled a $20,599.00 bid! Bring up bid history and scroll all
the way down to verify this.

There was a bid of $20,599 that was retracted. Probably a mis-entered
$205.99.

Hmm.....

Before the retraction it revealed Bidder 14's high bid as $1.000.00

Interesting to see what happens now

I think Bidder 14 might want to reconsider a few of his bids as well...
