In the late 1950's when the bank of England discontinued the white fiver
and replaced it with a coloured note I don't recall an economic collapse
in the UK following this change. Billy

Ah, but inflation... The downfall of the pound since the early sixties
is, without a doubt, due to the colour of the pound notes.

I didn't say that exactly. The dollar and green are practically
synonymous. To take away the green and thus make it generic and
European in a time when a new, strong currency is being introduced in
Europe was certainly not an intelligent thing to do.
