Default Difference between British and American Firsts?

Greetings,

I am new here, hope you don't mind......

What is the difference between British and American First Editions?
If a book is published in the UK first, then, a month later comes out
in America, is the American version truly a "First?"

Just wondering.

thanks

No. The first edition is the one that comes out first. If the US and UK (or
other country) editions come out at the same time, the highest value is
generally attached to the edition of the author's home country.

Just to flesh that out a bit, sellers will often describe editions as
"firsts" even if they have been preceded by an edition in another country,
but strictly speaking they shouldn't; they should specify "first US edition"
or "first UK edition", or whatever.
