Difference between British and American Firsts?
Greetings,
I am new here, hope you don't mind...... What is the difference between British and American First Editions? If a book is published in the UK first, then, a month later comes out in America, is the American version truly a "First?" Just wondering. thanks snark |

If the US and UK (or other country) editions come out at the same time, the highest value is generally attached to the edition of the author's home country. -- John http://rarebooksinjapan.com |

Just to flesh that out a bit, sellers will often describe editions as "firsts" even if they have been preceded by an edition in another country, but strictly speaking they shouldn't; they should specify "first US edition" or "first UK edition", or whatever. -- John http://rarebooksinjapan.com |
