Guess Rowe/AMI finally gets to be king of the hill. Not bad a for a
firm that started out near bankruptcy and with 50 people after WWII...

Though I saw a Rock-Ola on location by me the other day. I don't get
Rock-Ola's current machines. They sound like Rock-Olas, too. i.e.,
****ty. Has that company EVER made one that sounded good?

What ever happened to Wurlitzer? They squirted out a ton of 1015OMTs,
but I don't see anything else from them in the US.

Ok, granted AMIs aren't perfect (I love how they shuffle records around
when they get woen and do the pause and fling thing too), but they're
not horrid machines. But they STILL get *no* respect from collectors

Interestingly, the older NSM 45 mechs look like they were ripped from
Seeburg. I hear they're actually ok machines until the spring that
holds the turntable motor against the turntable dies, then they slip.
Oh yeah, and try to dicipher the documentation on them.

Ouch! They were good boxes in the CD era. Have you owned any of these?

No. The appearance put me off big time, and the fact that you could
only see 4 album covers at a time (and therefore it took forever to
view the entire selection compared to a Rowe) was the biggest
drawback. Like most European products in my opinion - very little
effort seemed to be put into making the product actually look good
which is essential for a juke. Also pushing out the same shaped
models for year after year to make it worse.

The US companies like Rowe AMI did put in the effort (in most cases)
to make the jukes look good and I think that this won them more sales.

By the time NSM got their act together with a proper 8 title to a view
page system in the "Gemfire" wallbox (which I thought was a pretty
good juke and light years ahead of their earlier models) 10 years had
passed. This is not a good thing.

I looked at changing to them for our operation 2 years ago where a
wallbox was needed, but the disappointing attitude of the australian
NSM Distributor toward regarding the servicing and modifying of ALL
our cdm 12 players from both Rowe and NSM led me to totally forget it
and we got the AMI Berklee and Storm Models instead. (he refused to
service ROWE ones - would only do NSM even though there was no
difference in the players that I knew of)

I wonder if he realises how many potential sales he lost by this
action.. Then again that is not my problem.

Right on Ken!
I don't agree with this guy at all!
IF you rebuild your amp and have good speakers in a juke it will sound good
no matter what brand it is.
Of course there is always some exception to the rule.
I have a mix of all the major brands of jukes from the 40's through the 90's
in my collection and they ALL sound GREAT!
Of course you have to match your cartridge and needle to the age of the
records that you have in the box. That makes a big difference too!
And as far as AMI getting no respect from collectors, have you checked the
prices on Continentals or "I's" recently?
They are going for as much or more than bubbler ear Wurlitzers or 50's
Seeburgs these days!

Guess you never heard a Rockola Supersound 2.This thing rocks the house and has
got real strong bass and the sound is not muddy either. You must have heard a
lot of them with tired amps.Mine has had all electrolytic caps replaced even
the main filter caps.I didn't replace them at first until one day I got a loud
hum that got louder and louder as it played.Has been beautiful ever since. The
speakers have never been touched except for removing them and brushing the dirt
off them.

I've got a Rockola 490 Supersound. The sound
quality is awesome. Some of the best bass I
have ever heard. The cabinet must have been
designed to augment the bass, because it is
really worth writing home about. Yes, it does
rock the house as it has a very potent amp. I
love mine big time.
