I have three or four (or so) of these `carved' pieces (as opposed to the
ones that were struck on coin sized flans by his political adversaries).

They actually don't cost all that much. Circa $30 - $40 should get you a
decent example of such `trench' artistry. Needless to say, some
demonstrate better artistry than others.

Speaking of trench art.....one of the most amazing pieces of exonumia I
have is a smugglers piece made from a ten centimes coin dated 1857K (or
should I say two coins). Excellent engineering. The coin rather
strangely contained a portrait of Queen Victoria.

Another truly wonderful piece of `trench art' I have is in the form of a
smugglers piece made from CC trade dollars. The engineering on that one
is amazing. The opening mechanism is superb.

I guess I have a few nicely engrailled love tokens too, but I always
considered all of the foregoing to be `coins' by origin if nothing else,
and not really `exonumia'. I should put these all on my list :-)

Mostly Civil War tokens, but others also, such as Viet Nam era tokens
(DaNang dimes, anyone?)

Oh, I love the Vietnam era tokens. There's so much you can
find out about them on the Internet. But I find the 10c pieces
to be pretty elusive. I have one from the Beachcomber,
Hong Lam and Alamo Lounge.

What is "Bryan money"? I'd add jetons (H.K. in particular) and play
money to the list. Some of the latter are rather nicely done. I'd also
add fantasy coin issues (Lundy &c).

"Bryan money" includes comparative and satirical tokens and
medals issued during the William Jennings Bryan campaigns for
President of the U. S. in 1896 and 1900.

He ran on an anti-"Free Silver" platform, and advocated a
strict 16:1 ratio of gold to silver values. Most of the
"comparative" pieces were issued by Bryan, and showed how much
money was "stolen" by the government in the process. Many of
the "satirical" pieces were issued by Bryan's opponents, and
poked fun at his proposals ...

These were documented in a 1926 article in "The Numismatist"
by Farran Zerbe and in a recent book published by the Token
and Medal Society.

I collect the following:

1. Royal Canadian Mint medals and medallions. They don't have a line of
medals for public sale like the US Mint does. RCM medals are mostly made
for internal use: for long service, to commemorate the launch of a new
coin, for distributors' meetings, for retiring employees, etc. I have a
few pics in this on-line album: http://members.photofun.com/al-roy/rcm

2. Canadian million-dollar novelty notes.

3. Canadian political funny money.

4. Exonumia refering to Canadian numismatic books and periodicals (to
accompany my book collection).
