No, it doesn't work. I am using Outlook Express as my newsreader.

Randall, I don't mean to be cheeky. Though I do not use it personally, I was

I did not take it in any way other than the way you intended it.

It is just that I have found an inexpensive product, that works well for me,
does not alter or cause harm to a pen rubber part, and a small container
costing only a couple bucks will last me as long forever, as I only repair my
pens. Why should I change? That is what I was saying.

nope - it pops up as an email. the "@" makes OE assume it's an email

Sorry to bring this up, but there's no need to write everything in the
subject line and append an 'n/t' here. In fact, if you use too many
characters, it's harder to read your message than if you had put in

probably a holdover from boardhost posting which is actually fast and easy
to follow using the method BL used.

cumbersome than web browsers and html. I can plow through newsgroups
much larger than a.c.p-p pretty quickly with just a few keystrokes.

I was going to object to the subject-line change, too, but for a
different reason -- historically on the Usenet, subject-line changes
have been used only when the thread's topic changes to the extent that
the initial subject no longer accurately describes it. And even then,
the old SL was incorporated into the new. For example,

Subj: PenLovers has been sold (WAS: silicone grease)

However, I have been unable to find a hard and fast rule for SL changes
in any of the Usenet FAQs or news.newusers.questions.

On to a technical reason for not changing a thread's subject line: some
NG servers thread according to SL content only; this is incorrect and
can make for thread disjoints. The proper threading method is
header-based. On my news server and with Mozilla Thunderbird, BL's post
appears properly-threaded, but I can't say that this will be the case
for all readers and all servers. ISTR that at one time Google's method
was purely subject-line-based; I can't be sure, though, and if it truly
was, I don't know if they've since changed the mechanism to the "proper"
one. It'll be an easy check in a few hours/days/whatever to see if that
post makes it into that thread on their servers. Anyway, that fact that
there *is* just a chance of one's post not being included in a thread by
some servers because of a forced SL change would be reason enough, in my
mind, not to change it in the first place, unless of course the topic
truly had changed and the subject change was warranted.

Radio Shack's Multi-Purpose Lube Gel (aka: Archer Lube Gel) contains
silicon grease and PTFE (Teflon). It costs about $3 for a huge 3 oz
tube... plenty to last a life-time and share with your pen friends.
Really though, silicon grease is easy to find... plumbing supply stores
carry it, scuba shops carry it, etc. -- B

apparently in my little bassackwards town this isn't so. No scuba shops
nearby and the hardware and auto supply stores just gave me dull stares and
pointed me to silicone *caulk*. oh well. I like the little laquer box
Pendemonium used anyway. :-)

Warning to folks new to this discussion: Do *not* use silicone caulk or
sealant. Yes, it's been asked before.
