Amazon refund received after 6 weeks
Finally received the refund check today. The email sent to Jeff Bezos did
the trick. Glad to close this chapter, but my Amazon buying days are over. Scared to death to ever place an order there again. Thanks for all of the unhelpful comments from all the miserable book toads and assorted losers. |

Scared to death to ever place an order there again. Thanks for all of the unhelpful comments from all the miserable book toads and assorted losers. It seems to me you are going about things the wrong way. In the first place, did you read the seller's customer ratings before you ordered? If they were newbies with almost no successful sales, you were taking a big chance ordering from them. You have to expect that there are going to be some unsavory scrounges out there who should not be selling books on the net in the first place. On the other hand, if a seller had 4,000 customer ratings or the past year and had customer ratings of 92 percent satisfaction, (instead of 98 or 99 percent) that means they had a great many people who were less than happy with the transaction and you should have stayed away from them. [Yes, I realize that there is a clueless individual in this group who attempts to use satistical legerdemain to show that a 92% customer satisfaction rating on Amazon is somehow acceptable for someone who has sold thousands of books. Actually, 92% for someone who has sold thousands of books the past twelve months is terrible, so don't be fooled by our inept newsgroup know-it-all. He is basically an embarrassment to the entire forum.] Your best buying bets on Amazon are sellers who have sold at least a few hundred books and have customer satisfaction ratings very close to one-hundred percent. (Yes, some buyers are habitually unreasonable, but there is no excuse for selling 8,000 books and having maybe 500 customers less than satisfied -- that only happens because of seller greed, laziness, or stupidity or all three combined in one seller.) Also, you can prevent problems by watching for "listing clues." For instance, I saw an instance where someone was listing a moderately expensive book, and in his listing he said, "MAY have a tear in the dust-jacket" (I emphasized "may.") Imagine someone cavalier enough to list a book for $40 but who cannot say one way or another whether there is a tear (which just might be a LARGE tear!) in the dust jacket! Why not be honest about it and say "The dust jacket MAY be in shreds"?!! Watch for other clues such as the use of "mint." Coins and stamps are minted, books are not. Someone using "mint" in a listing is either a rank amateur or a vicious ignoramus. They are best avoided if you the buyer have any other options. (I saw one listing where someone was touting a book as "Factory fresh"!) Yes, refunds should be issued immediately. In the first place, there is no excuse for listing a book a seller does not have in his possesion. If a seller has made an inventory error and cannot fill an order, he should apologize and issue an immediate refund the same day the order came in or the next day at the very latest. If that is too much to ask, then he should not be on Amazon in the first place. Anyway, Amazon is providing a wonderful service to book dealers and customers. Now that they are associated with thousands of dealers, commonsense should tell you that there will some bad apples in the barrel. (memo from the upstairs office) |

So, in fact, when you posted under the name "Amazon Steals" and using the subject line "Amazon now commits mail fraud" you were, in fact, both wrong and bandying about potentially libelous statements? Glad to see you can admit your mistakes like a man. Thanks for all of the unhelpful comments from all the miserable book toads and assorted losers. No problem. Don't let the doorknob get wedged in your fundament when you flounce out. |

How do you know that?
because that is what the individual in charge of executive consumer relations stated in their email....directly referencing the email to the CEO both wrong and bandying about potentially libelous statements? they would be libelous if one invented the entire affair or continued to "bandy" them about after already receiving a refund No problem. Don't let the doorknob get wedged in your fundament when you flounce out. if the "toad shoe" fits then wear it |

Over the past several years (dating back to the 1990's), I've bought 100's of items from eBay and eBay Marketplace sellers and have had no problem with those items sold directly by Amazon (delivered promptly) and only 1 problem with a Marketplace Seller (for which Amazon refunded my money promptly). The few returns I've had to make have been replaced or refunded promptly also. And now you don't want to use a FREE gift certificate because you're afraid the order won't come - you seem pretty illogical and, dare I say it, almost irrational! |
