All plastics have plasticizers in them. (What makes them
"plyable") it depends on the quality of the plastic which
determines how quickly they breakdown.

This is actually one of the biggest health threats of our
generation. The plasticizer BPA has been linked to dozens of
genetic conditions and serious studies have been done. If you want
to get sick to your stomach, do a search for "epigenetics bpa",
there was a COOL documentary on Nova that showed the effects of
BPA on mice and their offspring. (Most plastic containers leach
BPA into whatever they are holding)

While at the Toyota dealership getting my recall taken care of the
other day, I picked up an ancient issue of Time magazine and read
an article about epigenetics. The experimentation on mice was
mentioned there, and it's pretty scary stuff. I'm glad we know
about it, though. Unfortunately,
there will be some who will go to great lengths to suppress these
findings of science, as has become so chic these days.

Well, oly will be the troll here and point out that new baby type
people are still being pinched-off right and left. Regardless of BPA
or atrazine (a very popular substance here in corn/maize-growing
country) or dozens of other substances.

Plastics make for better life, cheaper food, etc. Also gotta say
that without various plastics, things like my angioplasty probably
wouldn't be possible.

All the hullaballoo about plastics is just that much MORE psuedo-
intellectual mumble.

Of course, put your valuable coins into quality flips.

Oh, I don't know that I'd classify your post as trolling, mon vieux.
Misconstrued, maybe, but not trolling. Nobody here has suggested that
plastics are evil. Compared to the plastics that were around when I
was a kid, today's products are magnitudes better. But, if there are
nasties in them, shouldn't we do what is necessary to eliminate the
nasties and make the products even better? Science is a process, not
a destination, and there are no incontrovertible conclusions
anywhere within it, only tentative ones. Scientific theory changes
as new information is learned. Your admonition to use quality (read:
more expensive) flips for our coins shows that even *you* are aware
and appreciative of the findings of science in that regard.

Now, about all the media hullaballoo about Toyotas...

Science doesn't have a lot to do with it, experience does - I am old
enough to have owned "Harco" coin albums in their original
incarnation, and their "flesh" was 100% pure drippy PVC. *I've seen
very nice sets of Walkers and Franklins turn pickle green in those
things, and I'm not the person who goes out of my way to find
examples. *"Safeflips" are best.

Science has everything to do with it. *I can't help if the media
sensationalize everything. *With very few exceptions, they are just as
ignorant of science as their audiences, but have the additional motivation
of profit behind their activity, so they'll say anything to get your
attention long enough for you to stick around and see what their advertisers
want you to see. *The media also lack peer review. *But I am not going to
ignore science just because I don't like the scientist or the channel where
his research results are presented.

Agreed, Saflips are the best. *My entire world collection is housed in them,
even the coins I paid only 5c for.

Now as for Toyota, that recall stuff has ZERO to do with engineering
or science. *It is a financial story - Japan pulls back just a teeny
tiny bit from buying our dubious Treasury and Agency bonds, and
Washington flexes its muscles and says "Hey, do you yella fellas want
to sell your stuff here in the U.S.A. anymore???". *That's what that's
about - Toyota is another financial "hold-up" or "stop-and-rob" of the
long-suffering Japanese savers.

The chances of experiencing spontaneous acceleration in a Toyota are smaller
than getting hit by lightning. *Once again, it's a media campaign, spurred
on and more importantly, financed, by people who have a bitch about Japanese
products and stand to gain from Toyota's fall. *I know politics when I see
it.

Well, I will be a rightist Luddite with what I think about "science"
in the first few years of the 21st Century. No need to go there at
length.

You can call it politics, but in my view, "finance" has taken on a
zombie pre-eminence nowadays in America. It is really neither a
right, left or centrist thingie. Very few Americans are working very
hard at all, and all parties - government, corporate and individuals -
need another loan. Americans of all political views need another loan
very badly. Tommorrow we will need another loan too. And the day
after that. No loans??? The game of musical chairs stops.

You won't give us another loan??? You're toast, Mr. Foreigner-type
person.

Lots of Americans who think they are independent are actually totally
dependent on some government or corporation floating another loan(s)
so the bi-monthly or monthly checks won't bounce.

Zombie "Finance" is pre-eminent in today's America. It's the whole
game.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

FWIW, I got a nice early British Trade Dollar XF/AU with lustre this
week (1898 Bombay), plus some circulation quality examples of the
Northern Marianas Quarter Dollars, both P & D mintmarks.

Those quarters went straight into the Dansco albums.
