Has the sale of coins pretty well stopped?
I haven't see many FA or FS posts for some time. I was wondering if
the economic situation has pretty well made buying and selling of coins a luxury that most can not afford right now. If so, seems like it would be a good time for those that can afford it to be buying at a reduced price. Unfortunately, at my age (75) I'm not adding stuff, and need to start getting rid of the whole mess. Bob-tx |

Bob-tx There are still tons of coins being sold on eBay, and some of those auctions have been cited here by RCC'ers in FA posts, although not many lately. Maybe people who have done so in the past felt that promoting their auctions here wasn't productive. Maybe they've just quit RCC altogether as one person has suggested. The FS posts have always been few and far between. There's often no way to know if an RCC seller is successful. In short, I don't believe that any decrease in FA or FA posts here is directly related to the current economic situation. It's always a good time to buy coins at a reduced price whenever you can afford to buy coins at all. I know how you feel about realizing that the time inevitably comes to get rid of some of the stuff you've enjoyed collecting. Especially if potential heirs are sitting at home grinning and rubbing their hands together instead of having showed an interest while you were collecting. |

Bob-tx There are still plenty of coins being sold to collectors. Dealers are doing a fair amount of over-the-counter purchasing of precious bullion and scrap. The recent economic leveling is real enough, but it is unevenly distributed amongst individuals, and unevenly distributed geographically within the USA. oly |

Bob-tx "...need to ... get ... rid of the whole mess" As I am sure would be the case when you acquired what you have, careful shopping prior to selling is good. Exhibiting too much haste can be hazardous to your wealth. The advice about eBay may be good. I tend to look at coins on eBay less than some other things. Even there I find that lately there are a lot of items that have sold for what seem to me high prices. In some other areas I watch a bit closer, I often see old junk I picked up in Europe from people that wanted to be rid of it (at embarrassingly low prices) going for higher than the newer, better models, available in the USA. Look at eBay before doing anything rash. Also look at the shows and the dealers. |
