Default Sailor 1911 Music tip

I was just given a Sailor 1911 fountain pen with the music tip. The thing
barely writes. I've tried the converter with both Montblanc and Skip inks
as well as the refills that came with the pen from Sailor. It *never* just
starts writing and needs all sorts of cajoling to get the ink flowing. It
also seems scratchy and often skips. I've used all sorts of fountain pens
over the years, mostly Shaffer, and I've never had such a frustrating
experience. I even tried cleaning it under cold running water, but nothing
seems to help.

Did I get a lemon? Has this been anyone else's experience with Sailor pens?
Should I ask the giver to ask for an exchange? I realize music and other
broad nibs tend to be stubborn, but this is ridiculous.

It's possible, I had trouble with mine at first, it was starting and
stopping. I sent it back to Sailor (Luxury Brands LLC) and it's fine now.
If it's brand new return it to the seller for a new one to avoid the
aggravation of having a new pen and then being without it for 4-5 weeks if
not longer. You could try the 409/water mix or a few drops of ammonia added
to water and run it through with a syringe to clean out the feed, etc.
The pen should be writing flawlessly with the cartridge, sometimes the
converters create some problems.

You must have a lemon. Sailor nibs are hands down the best production
nibs you can buy. I am also really surprised to hear your story
becuase every Sailor is supposed to be write-tested at the factory. I
have owned multiple Sailor pens and each and every one of them was a
superb writer out of the box. Try to exchange it,

Alex

Howie,

I have a 1911 w/music nib. It skipped and stalled and I sent it back
to Luxury Brands. I had it back within a week, and it has worked
flawlessly since then. It is a great pen. Just email them and they
will give you the name and address.

Thank you, all.

I have sent the pen back (Worldlux, Seattle) for either a replacement nib or
pen, whichever they deem appropriate.

Just to update Michael & Alex,
I sent the pen back and received a replacement from Worldlux, and it writes
flawlessly, glassy smooth, and one of the best fountain pens I've owned and
used. Apparently I did receive a lemon originally.
Thank you, again.

Glad to hear it. I have dealt with Worldlux and they are a class act.
