Default Nice Little Brag

Saw a couple of Easton Press SF books (Bujold's Falling Free and
Sawyer's The Terminal Experiment) at $20 each on a swing-by of the
nearest Half-Price Books yesterday, went home, priced them out, and
came back to pick them up, plus scan the mainstream shelves I hadn't
had a chance to peruse the other day, upon which I found a copy of
Larry McMurtry's Lonesome Dove.

"Can't be a first," I thought, pulling it out and seeing no Pulitzer
Prize sticker on the cover.

"Can't be a first," I thought, opening it up and seeing a price on the
dj flap.

"Can't be a first," I thought, turning to the copyrightpage, and seeing
the 1 n the numberline.

"Can't be a first," I thought, turning to see if there was a embossed
book club square on the back cover. There wasn't.

Holy Molle! A First! (It even has trhe misprint on page 621, which I
was unaware of until I came home to price check it.)

A Near Fine only copy, with an owner'sblindstamp on the title page, but
still a nice $100 find for $7.98. And friends who have read it tell me
the novel itself is excellent.

And that's why you check the titles which you know 99 times out of a
hundred won't be a first, because on that hundreth time...
