Default Life and works of Robert Burns

Hi, hope someone can help. My mother has a book by Hately Waddell titeled
The Life and Works of Robert Burns it has a date on the inside of I believe
1867, but it might be 1865. It is leatherbound and quite a remarkable
looking book with lots of illustrations. Any idea what this book might be
worth? If you need some more information feel free to e-mail me directly or
post here.

Thanks

This Addall.com response shows one copy of the book, dated 1867, for
sale with an asking price of $248. You may wish to compare information.

I'm not familiar with a portion of the description. What does 'Cold.
frontiss.' refer to?

Thanks

All the copies on bookfinder seem to run to 2 volumes

http://www.bookfinder.com/

start quote

Publisher: David Wilson 1867.; 4to. 2 vols. Cold. frontiss.,
numerous ills. including 16 steel engravings, 11 cold. plates,
map & facsimiles. Lightly browned, sporadic spotting occasionally
intruding upon plates, marbled e.ps., bound in half calf with gilt
dec. & lettering to spine, blind tooled motifs to panels on spine
& dec. tooling to joints & corners, sl. worn, scuff to upper board
of vol.1 with surface loss, sl. split to joints. US$228

end quote

The dealers seem to be asking between $200 - $250 although all
these entries seem to have similar faults, spotting etc. And may
even refer to the same copies. And whether they will get $200 - $250
is another matter, as they may have had those in stock for years.
And so one might offer you say, $100 for yours if he thought he had
a customer lined up. Or rather more if yours was in particularly
good condition. As judged by a second hand book dealer that is.

I believe it refers to frontispieces printed in color (cold. = colored).

(I considered that the seller might have meant "collated," but that doesn't
seem to make sense here.)
