Default UK Coin Site Updates

A Happy New Year to everyone.

I have been working on my web site again, and in
particular trying to improve the images of
copper and bronze coins. I have decided that
trying to use a scanner is not very effective, as
especially with darkly toned coins the colours are all wrong.

I have bought a new digital camera, which takes excellent
close-up pictures of coins without having to buy a macro lens.

I still have to reduce the image sizes a lot, otherwise they
take far too much of my limited web space, but the quality
of those images that I have taken so far is a big improvement.

The interesting thing is how much the background colour affects
the images. White is no good - it causes under-exposure
and I have not yet learnt quite how to regulate that.
Black is good for silver coins, but makes coppers look
too silvery.

I have found green to be good for coppers, giving a
good tone for the image of the coin itself (in fact
the tone is improved over the original in some cases!)

Have a look at the pictures of fractional farthings, farthings and
copper pennies. Direct links:

Bearing in mind the recent troll invasion (which my kill-file
has very effectively dealt with), has not my random tag-line
generator done well this time!
