I have a Morgan that was dipped in mercury. Is there anyway of removing
it with out damaging the coin? It is the ugliest thing.....
Thanks , Doris

No. But if you get some powdered sulfur, you can tone it to the point where it
would bring a strong premium on Ebay. :-)

It's tough to tell how far a smiley goes, so forgive me if you already know
this.

You don't want that coin. Neither does Doris. Mercury is BAD stuff, and I think
it will emit poison vapors even when amalgamated with silver. Especially in
children (Or any young mammal), it can cause serious brain and nerve damage.

If you're going to keep it, seal it. or cover it in sulfur, which will react
with the mercury and form a much easier to handle compound.

Thank you for your concern Bruce. I have had it in a 2x2 for 3 yrs
and seldom remove it from the folder. Never from the 2x2.

I have an idea that there are a few people that would buy that coin
for me just to see that happen Eric

I got a penny as change for a dime in a store the other day, and was
wondering if any of you fine people here would know what it might be worth.
Any help to find out if you don't know would be helpful as well. Thanks.

Do you have an image? It could be a non plated lincoln cent or it could
be a lincoln cent struck on a dime planchet.
It could also be an altered lincoln cent that someone either painted
silver or someone dipped it in a solvent and it ate the copper plating off.

How well does it work to take the opposite tack and give a penny a little silver
plating?
