Hello All,
I am not sure about the STL but the most recent update shown on the STL Web Site is September 2003. I also know that I no longer get monthly emails with the list of new members for that month. Recently I sent a few queries to some STL members with no replies. Dupke's Web Site is my current trading "hot site" and I almost always get replies from ads on Dupke's Web Site. By the way, the worst response to trading ads is here at R.C.S.M.P. I get no response at all to trading proposals posted here. It seems to be only a place of Auction and Sell messages. If you are looking for good trading sites try Stamporama or Dupke's Web Site. I have had good luck with both of these. Jim McCain "Al G." wrote in message ... Stamporama is excellent - forums are good too - quite a few of the
regulars here contribute there too. There are also a number of stamp exchange groups on yahoo that are worth a visit- although the info. tends to be a bit weak the exchanges are quite good - most of my exchanges have come from these. Also try putting "stamp exchange" on google search - but you might bite off more than you can chew there!! Al G. wrote in message . .. I don't understand the value of stamp exchange,
I have found the experience expensive, and fraught with problems, generally. I much prefer the "Auction circuit sheet" route. I spend $40-$50 buying up a few mixed collections, I take out a few issues I have noted during inspection. I replace the gaps and perhaps add a few of my duplicates and place back in the auction again. I find it fun, stress free, obligation free, and the old fella that runs the auction, gets on-going business. | Stamporama is excellent - forums are good too - quite a few of the | regulars here contribute there too. I have looked and thought about the stamp exchange thing but it just doesnt' appeal. How can I get involved in some of the "auction circuit sheet" activities in .au? This sounds like a good way to build my collection. Rene http://www.renster.com/stamps |

G'day Rene,
"Auction circuit sheet" is just my personal view on the rotation aspect All you have to do is read the classifieds in any of your local rags and spot any stamp auctions in your local area. Visit all, and find one you are comfortable with. My favourite is in the back of a local washing machine shop, the fella that runs it makes regular mistakes, is partially deaf tells unbelievable stories about some of the mixtures, and generally all concerned have a pretty good time. I dread the day when this fella retires, I enjoy it so much. The trestle tables, (about 5-6) are generally full, and one can view "hands-on" the day before. Mint and rare copies are in Hagners under glass. About 20-30 regulars attend auctions about 2 months apart. He sells cards, papers, coins, banknotes, match box covers, french naughties, it's just one big pot-pourri. HTH | Hi Rodney, | | I would also like to do it this way. I've started to scope out some local auctions, browsing for what is there - generally looking rather than purchasing at the moment. Pity work gets in the way of this... I have been going to a general auction in my local area that sells stamps as a small part of the whole auction. Unfortunately I can see where the albums and collections have been picked through and the more sought after stamps removed by whomever supplies the stamps for auction. Takes the excitement out of the potential big find. There are however some reasonable pickings to be had - that's if someone buying furniture doesn't suddenly take an interest in stamps, get "stamp fever" and decide to pay too much Rene http://www.renster.com/stamps |

Unfortunately I can see where the albums and collections
have been picked through and the more sought after stamps removed by whomever supplies the stamps for auction. You can use abovementioned to guage just what level you are at with collecting Boxed on paper: "Pick a box" cheapest per single unit, but a hell of a lot of work. Suitable only for the cancel or slogan collector Thematics: probably your cheapest buy, a full album for around $5-10 Mixed country Album: $5-$30 depending on quality, some pickings generally toned, creased, thins and ripped maybe 100 good stamps. Dedicated Album part collection: The collector is starting to get serious would supply probably 80%-90% of all issues (over time) $5-$60 for up to 500 stamps In Hagner under glass: Probably around 1-30 stamps Blocks of 4, high Values, errors known hard to gets. Usually around $25 to $150 Specialist singletons: To finish off one's collection (outside of my wallet |
